"Without Equal: The Clocks of Abner Jones of Bloomfield, New York" Exhibit curated by G. Russell Oechsle
Our 2022 exhibit will focus on the history of one of New York State's most intriguing clock makers of the 1815-40 period, spanning the end of the hand-made tall clock artisan period through the brief, but grand, era of Empire shelf clock making in Upstate New York. The talk will examine the life, times and clocks of Abner Jones of East and West Bloomfield, New York, the maker said to have made less than 100 shelf clocks, the maker of the clock cases with drawers housing hand-made movements in the dawn of the age of mass production, the maker of shelf clocks of limited numbers but unparalleled size and exuberant Empire style. His clocks, revered then as now, were and are simply without equal. This will be the largest exhibit of Abner Jones clocks ever assembled.
